The fact that EE states that the OP can sell after six months and that it is an OFCOM regulation indicates that this is total BS. OFCOM does not regulate credit agreements and the handset is either sellable at any time or at the end of the 24 month contract, not some abstract mid-point.

It depends which contract you are on. Normally you can do as you wish with the phone supplied, selling it or passing it on to a friend and use your sim in any other phone. If however you have one of the refresh contracts, the phone is not yours to sell until the handset part of the contract is paid off, at which point it becomes yours.

One way to get mobile phones at lower prices is to buy it straight from mobile service carriers, or what are called contract phones. Service carriers offer these phones at very low prices, which come with contracts, limiting the phone to work only on their network for a specific time period stated in the contract. Then IMHO legal action should be taken against YOU the person to recoup the money, not have the device locked making it worthless to the buyer who paid you the money. If you are allowed to sell your phone by your network, remember that you’re still responsible for paying off your contract each month. If you stop payments for some reason, the network could blacklist the device, which would obviously be a problem for the buyer and may leave you open to legal action from them.
